What is your strategy for staying fit with your demanding schedule?
You have to block out time for your workouts or they will not happen. I run with Gilbert’s Gazelles in the morning classes that start at 5:45 a.m. Clients don’t usually expect me to be available at that time of the day. I also do my endurance training early on Saturday mornings. That time is sacred to me, and I work very hard not to let anything interfere with these runs or bike rides.
What is your current favorite workout to do and why?
I love speed workouts at the Austin High School track during this time of the year because as you are running around the track you see the sun rising on the other side of downtown; there is no better sight in Austin.
Why is being a fit lawyer important to you?
Being a lawyer is a stressful and competitive environment. Exercising allows your body to de-stress and it also gives me an outlet for my competitive side.
What is your largest fitness accomplishment in the past year?
Finishing 11th in my category in the Spring 2011 Texas Mountain Bike State Championship. I also got a new personal record of 3 hours and 26 minutes at the California International Marathon in December 2011.
Give one piece of advice to others looking to get fit and healthy as a busy professional.
Make the time to get and stay fit; the rewards in every other area of your life, including in your profession, are great.
What is your favorite healthy meal?
I love all the raw food at Whole Foods, particularly kale and avocado salad.
